Cast iron anodes of Bernagdas are the most common anodes used in current injection systems.

Silica-rich cast iron anode
(High Silicon Cast Iron Anode) :

Persilis Bernagdas cast iron anodes are the most common anodes used in current injection systems in underground installations. The presence of high silicon and chromium in persilicium cast iron anodes has caused a strong increase in corrosion resistance and can guarantee the longevity of protected facilities for a long time.

The trade name of this alloy is Tantiron and it is produced according to ASTM-A 518 and IPS-M-TP-750 standards. Persilic cast iron anodes are divided into two categories “C” and “N” in terms of chemical composition. “C” type tanthiron is usually used in environments with acidic and alkaline soil or sea water, and “N” type tanthiron is used in environments with neutral soil or fresh water (hot water tanks, etc.). The chemical composition of persilica cast iron anodes is as follows:

Element (wt%) chemical mixture
N” type  “C“type
Carbon 0.9-1 1 – 0.9
silicon  14.25-14.75 14.75 -14.25
Manganese MAX 1.5 MAX 1.5
molybdenum MAX 0.2 MAX 0.2
copper MAX 0.5 MAX 0.5

According to the IPS-M-TP-750 standard, the physical properties of persilica cast iron anodes are as follows:

HardshipAt least HB 500
Compressive strengthAt least MPa 650
Special resistanceMaximum microohm.cm 72

The maximum output current density and consumption rate of silica-rich cast iron anodes in different environmental conditions are as follows:

The connection of the copper cable to the anode is of the Lead Caulking type, which has the lowest voltage drop at the connection point in addition to a firm and reliable connection. The connection between the cable and the anode is covered with epoxy resin and a thermal cap is placed on it to prevent moisture from entering.

Normally, silica-rich cast iron anodes are produced in two sizes: 2 x 60 and 3 x 60 inches. The output current of 2 x 60 silicon-rich cast iron anodes in the carbon backing (coking coal) is about 2 amps, and the output current of 3 x 60 x 60 silicon-rich cast iron anodes is considered to be about 3 amps for the design life of 25 years. According to the IPS-M-TP-750 standard, the dimensions and weight of silicon-rich cast iron anodes are as follows:
